45 "sole" flattening.....

George in Lowell, Mich.

>There is always alot of talk about flattening planes, but no mention of combination planes.

I noticed that my 45 plunged in as I was using it. I checked the skate and main body on my surface plate and my goodness!!!!!! Almost 1/32" difference in front of the blade compared to in back of the blade!!!!! I checked the other 45's and 46's that I have, (I'm not a collector, I'm a user Ha Ha), and they were as bad or worse.

I flattened it and it works great!

I'm wondering if all the bad PR that combination planes get is a result of this?

I always thought the Sargents worked better

Jim Reed @ Tallahassee

>I will check them out & see if their skate is even. The Sargents & Craftsman (by Sargent?) always seem to work better than the #45s.
