Chariot Plane

wayne anderson

>All the talk about making infill planes.... Just had to post a photo of the newest chariot plane. This one has a pivoting bridge with a screw. Those marks on the side are reflections. It's hard to get a good photo of shiny stuff. Wayne

>Wayne, again just criminally gorgeous! Thanks for the inspiration.

I am really fond of your skew miter planes though. I think they are one of the prettiest planes my eyes have ever seen!

>Those are drugs, you are a pusher, and if one of these days I get a shotgun and go out and knock down a liquor store, it's going to be all your fault.

I keep thinking "it doesn't get any better than this," but every time you post a picture of a new one, it does. Simply incredible. Hopefully, someday you'll get a well deserved one man show at the MOMA.

Reminds me of Art-Deco era design.

A great example of form and function.

What are we looking at?

woodburnbob

>Paul, you've posted a pic of a very handsome plane. Could you elaborate a little? Is that a plane you made? Would you mind describing the construction? Beyond being very handsome (and presumably functional based on the shavings surrounding it), it looks to be extremely well proportioned and fashioned. The curved metal back really caught my eye. I'm thinking the metal body could be a precision machined casting. On the other hand, is it dovetailed? Not to diminish Wayne Anderson's achievements, skill and artistry, your plane has the look of a tool rather than something one might find in a high-end jewelry store. That is, I'd have your plane in my pocket or on the bench; I'd have Wayne's plane behind glass, in a cabinet, among my wife's Sterling and crystal ink wells.

No way!

Dean Lapinel

>Woodburnbob stated

"I'd have Wayne's plane behind glass, in a cabinet, among my wife's Sterling and crystal ink wells."

I have to admit that the plane that Wayne made for me resides in it's

own special place but it a great user! crystal ink wells, display cabinet...no way..it has to be handy and ready to go to work.

Just like my SxS shotgun made and engraved for me in Spain (my design for engraving). That shotgun has dings from hunting in the steep rocky terrain (chukars). Love the gun and plane but I use dem babys!

A Sheperd Tool thumb plane kit

Paul in NJ

>This is their most inexpensive kit. It comes with all the metal parts and instructions, you supply the wood for the infill. The metal part was actually fairly easy. The metal dovetails are much easier to do than it appears, it is more difficult to learn how to do them in wood. I am very pleased with the plane, it works like a charm.

Paul Dzioba

P.S. It took less then 40 hours to build.
