Low angle plane, HA bevel Thank you (longish)

I just want to thank all those who, through sharing their experiences, made me aware of the possibility of using a high angle iron in a bevel up plane.
Dad has some quilted/tiger/fiddle-back Queensland(?) maple. Beautiful figure, "impossible" to plane without severe tearout. He's been complaining about how exhausing standing whilst sanding was so I took my LN#164 with me when I went to visit yesterday. It took a couple of minutes to hone a 35 microbevel on the blade, then about 45 minutes to plane both sides of a piece of the maple, including removing machine tearout about 1.5mm deep.
It sure surprised dad. It's not often that a son gets to show his 84 year old father how to use a plane.
So thanks to all who introduced me to the possibilities and benefits of a high angle bevel on a low angle plane.
Ian
