Medical chisel?

Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native in FL. Exile :~(

>Got a buddy who has a nice chisel that has a symbol on it that is similiar to the Carathis(sp)(the Medical symbol of two snakes intertwined on a staff). His symbol only has one snake, and above the staff is a 3 pointed crown.

Is this perhaps a veternarian bone tool? Perhaps a U.K. medical tool?

The blade looks to be of stainless steel, but isn't because it has some rusting to it. The handle is probably an inch square, 6" long, and appears to be made of a real dense wood such as ebony or cocobolo. Any ideas?

He was using it to split apart some minerals in his rock shop, says it holds a darn good edge. I advised him to set it aside until we found out more about it.

>Todd,

I think the medical 2-snake symbol is called a caduceus. I remember seeing a post within the last month, asking about a tool with the same logo, but the poster was also just asking for info ...
