Resaw cup on purple-heart ATTN: Bill Tindall
Greg Sloop, Portland Oregon
>I cut some 8/4 purpleheart last night on the bandsaw.
It was a minor disaster for lots of reasons, with at last a primary one being I'm terrible at resaw.
The blade got dull really quick my feed ability isn't so great, the fast-track fence has just way too much deflection at the back etc...
*However*, that's not the real issue. The real issue is that the approx 1/4" cut cupped really badly. Like, well more than 1/4" over 9.5 inches wide.
(And, by the way, there's no matching cup on the remaining 8/4 board, so it's not slop in the band etc.
Any idea why? Case-hardening? If it is case-hardening, should I take it back to the lumber-yard? If it's all going to act this way, it's not very useful for the intended project. While I could keep it and use it for table-legs, top etc, I really don't care to do so.
See the pic. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Greg
