Bit box - okay, I couldn't stand it.

>I'd gotten a set of bits earlier this year along with a couple of braces and haven't had a place to put them. I kept seeing the (I think) Russell Jennings boxes (the three boxes in one) of bits advertised on eBay as dove tailed when all the ones I saw were box joints. So I decided to try and make one of the fancy boxes like the Jennings bits come in - only with dove tail joints.
I had some 3/4" butternut from some time ago that I'd intended to make some boxes out of - but of course never had. I don't know how well it will hold up because it's a little soft - but then I don't think I'll be dragging it anywhere outside my shop. I decided to make up the box in one place and then cut each box loose when it was done. In the lay out I allowed 1/8" for the two cuts I'd have to make and that proved more than adequate. I let the ends of the rails into each end and anchored them all with a couple of screws from underneath.
I used off the shelf brass hinges - but I hadn't gotten any hasps or clasps. I didn't see anything locally that I was happy with and I didn't want to wait on an order. So I looked around and found a piece of brass sheet left over from making the chair devils and a piece of ebony left over from the spoke shave I made, both just a little bit longer than the box(es) are high. So I decided decided to make my own out of ebony and brass. I used 1/8" brass rod as pins. So now I have a place to put my bits. :)
