"Saw a Sargent combination plane. As it is complete I am interested. I have a Stanley #45. Anybody could compare both? Anybody havin experience with a Sargent combo plane? I never had or even saw a Sargent plane. So, any information would be welcome."
I had one for several years--just sold it recently to a friend. As I have a #55 (and use to have a #45 too), it was mostly redundant in use, though quicker to set up than the #55.
My point is, other than it was a nearly pristine example and I liked owning it, there was not another reason to keep it any longer. So, as you have a 45, I would say that the Sargent 1080/1080PB (whichever)also would be redundant. If you want it for "just because," buy it. But it doesn't do anything any differently or better than your #45.
If you want to extend the "capabilities" of your present combo, look for a nice, complete #46. imo, that would be a better addition.
Take care, Mike
