And no post on marquetry would be complete without some reference to WPatrickEdwards.com and the American School of French Marquetry.

>Hi Rajiv

A good tutorial book that I have is "Marquetry and Inlay" by Zachary Taylor ISBN 0806926872

The "Marquetry Course" by Jack Metcalfe and John Apps ISBN 0-7134-8850-6 is also an excellent book. Just as good, or perhaps better, as the book by Taylor.

I also have the hardcover "Marquetry" by Pierre Ramond ISBN: 0892366850. It's a good coffee table book, but I don't find it as useful as a tutorial. It offers great pictures of great masterpieces, but as far as a tutorial, I think the book by Taylor or Metcalfe is better. ps., I know you're in Canada, but if you can get the book at the price advertised here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0892366850/103-8432463-4482268?v=glance&n=283155&s=books&v=glance&tagActionCode=artcreationde-20

then you're getting a great deal. I ordered the book through a local bookstore and paid about $125 CDN.

I also have viewed the video by Jan Walker: http://www.skbvideography.com/jansart/Jansartsales.html Jan is a local Alberta girl. In scenery in the introduction is great, but then she moves to her basement and the video gets a bit slow.

The video's not bad, and it helps to see how things are done instead of just reading about it. But, for me, it reinforced my initial experiences with Marquetry - that it's boring and tedious. I thought I was interested in Marquety (and I love the results), but I didn't enjoy my initial attempts, so other than some odd inlay, I think I'll stick with carving.
