>These type of saw vices are very common and I think designed so to be carried folded up in carpenters "Work" tool boxes they took with them on the job and used while sharpening on the job site. A regular saw vice would be to big and heavy to carry around. They work OK but not as well as a heavy regular saw vice I don't think....Todd
