What type # 3 *LINK*

>Missed out on getting the #3 :~( I really liked the tote on it. Can anybody tell the type of this #3 based on the tote?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh well, so it goes. I did score an ax the other day for $10 that I really liked. what's left of the paper label on the handle says Green Earth. I had never heard of this brand, but I really liked it as it has thick, a 21" long handle. It really struck my fancy right away, and was really doublly pleased to get the seller down from $20. Staying calm, and be willing to walk away (or at least pretend to) really helps.

Plane type isn't applicable here

>First of all, it's not a Stanley, so typing is a moot point. It's a Sargent, and looks to be an old VBM, although the lever cap doesn't say so. The folded lateral adjustment lever and the beaded front knob (plus the 409, 414 comment from the owner) all point towards Sargent.

I may be mistaken, but I believe that the wood is actually ribbon mahogany and not rosewood. I have an old Shaw's patent Sargent (very rare Bedrock equivalent FWIW) with the same style knob and tote, and the wood is gorgeous.

>Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh well than, that explains why I didn't recognize it. I never can put my finger on the them Sargents. they get me every time. I had noticed that the knob was beaded, and still didn't catch it. Thanks Bryan.

>I though you had given up on #3's what do you have now 15? 20? 55? of them. Todd o Todd o Todd o you have definatly got the jones realy bad for #3's saw books and sharpening stones. Please don't ever buy a van.

Thinking of #3's do you have an extra lever cap iron and chip breaker? and do they fit on a 113? I have one that is missing them parts but has been gold plated instead of nickel Just don't look right.

>Sorry Ernie, I do not have any extra blades/cheap breakers/lever caps for #3's, matter of fact, I need a few myself. Dunno if they'll fit a #113 as I don't have a #113, tho I dd see a gold plated one on e-bay just today. ;~)
