What to do in Boston?

Mats Wahlberg - Stockholm, Sweden

>Hi,

First-time poster here on Woodcentral but some of you may remember my occasional posts at Badger Pond.

I'm going to be in downtown Boston, MA next week and am looking for any woodworking related places to visit. I've located the Woodcraft store in Woburn but that's about it.

Suggestions?

/ Mats

>The freedom trail is a nice visit to Early American history.Santorpios is a very nice Pizzeria (right near the airport) Havard square is nice with lots of bookstores and freaky kids.

Lots of good museums --MFA, Gardner, etcI if you are a normite the workshop is

at Lexington gardens (a landscape place in lexington ) in Lexington.

I lived there for 20+ years and didn't find much of interest re woodworking except North bennet.

Now Maine has some interesting places as you undoubtly know.Except for a few obligatory museums and Universities Boston area (They call it the hub of the Universe} is mainely interesting for early new england history. Of course there is Stellwagen Bank

for whale watching.

>Hi Mats,

I second the other suggestions made - the USS Constitution is really interesting and the Freedom Trail is well marked and there is lots to see along the way. Harvard Square (in Cambridge) is good as well. There's a nice little hardware store off Harvard Square on Brattle St called Dickson Bros. I found interesting for a little while.

If you go down a stop on the Redline (http://www.mbta.com/traveling_t/schedules_subway_Redline.asp) from the Harvard Square stop to Porter and walk a few blocks on Massachusetts Ave there's a nice Rockler at 2154 Massachusetts Ave. They don't have a lot of hand tool stuff - but it's a nice store and the people there are friendly.

>Ok, thanks all for your suggestions, much appreciated.

To sum it up, a few woodworking related spots, some historically related places, pizza, books and whale watching.

I think I should be able to fill my spare time (I'll be working the rest of the time).

Thanks,

Mats
