>Does anyone know if the LN York pitch frog will fit a flat-side Bedrock 604? As they are available seperately I was hoping to save a few bucks. I could claim the Bedrock has sentimental value but actually I'm just cheap.

>Hi Tom,

No personal experience but if I remember correctly LN states it does not fit any other brand of plane other than a LN.

You can gain the same efficacy by back bevels. A spare blade and chip breaker with a 10 deg mback bevel would give you an effective pitch of 55 degrees.

I have had success by using the David Charlesworth ruler trick although with a thicker "ruler" or block of wood which would give you a 5 degree back bevel.

The best way to do this is with two honing guides. One for the primary and the second for the back bevel.

What I use to do is, with a single honing jig, I had a mark at my sharpening station that indicated projection from the front edge of the jig for the back bevels I used. So I would loosen the clamp on the jig, flip the blade and slide it to one of the marks (5, 10 and 15 degree BB marks on the bench), clamp it tight and hone it.

And actually, this is how I made sure the blade was square to the jig anyway. There was a strip of wood to which the side of the blade would ensure it was square to the jig. On one side of the "fence" was the BB, the other had common bevel settings.

Geez, I hadn't thought about that jig for a while. I made one for my wife to use with her turning tools and the Tormek jigs too. Easy and repeatable. She still uses it.

So use a back bevel. Expenditure - zero.
