Speaking of Router planes...

Christopher Fitch @ Memphis

>I need some help.

I have a Record 071 router plane. It's complete except for the screw and washer that holds the fence in place. Obviously, it's difficult to use without it for certain tasks.

I have been trying to find someone to supply me with a replacement but I have had no luck.

Can anyone tell me what the size, length, and thread count is for that screw?

TIA

>Hi Christopher,

I'm no hardware expert but I tried to measure:

-the threaded part is 5/8" long, bang on

-the head is 5/32" high, 3/8" in diameter

-the threads appear to be 20 TPI (seems pretty well bang on too, but I don't know if there's a metric thread that is close to this measurement)

-the shank including the threads is 3/16" thick (diameter)

-the washer is 1/2" OD

hope this helps

3/16" OD x 20 TPI is no standard thread I can find.

UK 3/16 BSW is either 24 or 32 TPI (standard or fine)

and OD 1/4" whitworth is 20 TPI.

>Hi Paul and Chrstopher,

Thanks for the haeds up, I knew I'd screw this up!

The 20 TPI seems exact, but I'll let you guys figure it out. I gave you 1/2" on the ruler for your measuring pleasure:

>Now here's the OD for the shank & threads. It reads 0.212 to 0.213" on my calipers. You can also read the metric measurements if you wish, my calipers give both:

It's the most standard non-standard plane thread. I should have guessed sooner.
