The last ones I made were...

>made from scrap 1/2" mahogony. I used a forstner bit to make two little pockets in each side and glued in rare earth magnets. Customers at the store (Rocklers) were impressed. The jaw covers stayed put, but were simple to take off. Good luck with yours.

>I put masonite liners on both the front vise and tail vise of my work bench. I used spray adhesive to attach the masonite liners to the jaws. This type of adhesive keeps the liners in place, but isn't permanent and allows me to easily replace them. I also left the liners a little long on the bottom to give me something to push against when I want to remove them.
They work just fine.

>I use them in my Emmert. I just routed out shallow grooves in the back with a Stanley 45 and laid in strips of thin adhesive-back magnet material...the cheap stuff that comes in a roll. I've had them for at least three years, and they are just now showing signs that they may need to be replaced. Keep in mind that I use them for both metal and wood, so they get heavy use. Cheap, easy, and durable...and they slip right out when I want to wipe the vise down. -Wayne
