>Apparently they knew enough about it to get it posted on this forum before the auction ends ;) I think it might be a Stanley #1 plane, but there is no way to tell from the pictures whether it is the real thing or a reproduction. I notice though that the adjuster knob is solid, and the front knob has a bead around the base. Are all the adjuster knobs on the #1 plane solid, or did they follow the same changes as the other types? Would be really neat to have a collection of each different type of #1 plane. Too bad this one is such a terrible example, having that huge break on the tote. I'm surprised anyone would want it ;)
my bad ... ?

>Ordinarily, I don't post about auctions till after they close, it just didn't occur to me this time (hey, it was late!). If it had been still going for a bargain number, I presumably woulda realized I might be messin' someone up by posting it ... but with 17 bids and a dozen or more different bidders on it, I don't think anyone was gonna sneak out with it too cheaply, regardless.
Oh yeah, no association with the seller - I haven't even been to MD in 10 years or more ... And anyway, if ever I wuz to shill my own eBay items here, Todd wouldn't have to check the IP addresses, 'cause my eBay ID would be instantly recognized -- it's almost the same as this one.
But nonetheless, mea culpa, and I'll be more careful.

>Coming from Frostburg in the mountains of Western Md. this plane was clear across the state from me , pretty far from the old tool hell I live in on the Eastern Shore. Truth be known most of us here don't even consider ourselves to be from Md. instead we prefer to think of ourselves as "Shoremen".
Looks like a pretty early no. 1 to me and am a little surprised it didn't go for more. Bad photos and being sold by a slow head with a nonexistant description really hurt it I guess. If you were a gambler I think you could of bought it cleaned it up and resold it and maybe made $400 or more...That is if it didn't have a big crack or some other surprise ....Todd
