Finally, after ninteen years...

Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native in FL. Exile :~(

>Nineteen years ago my Dad found a small leather workers vise while digging a hole, which he gave to me. The centerbolt/spring/wingnut assembly was rusted beyond the point of saving, so I took a pair of plires and broke it out. The rest of the vise was still in good condition, so I fiqured that I put a new bolt/spring/wingnut on it. Well, I did just that, LAST FRIDAY MORNING! took about 19 seconds to do. Kinda' got a chuckle out it, for 19 years I've had this thing kicking around, and I finally turned it back into a useable tool.

Got to wondering if any others had such a "long term" project kicking around on theit "tuit" list.

Don`t know about 19 years but...

Bob Hackett

>I do have enough projects like that to last a lifetime(maybe 2).

Right now the lead project would be the Troybuilt tiller that used to belong to Del Bryer who has been dead 10 years.I have another motor for it but haven`t got around to putting it on.Every spring during the annual clean-up my mother wants me to cart it to the dump and I have to remind her there`s a perfectly good motor down cellar for it.Last year I even started it for her.

Who knows maybe this coming spring will see it up and running.

So where did you get the parts to complete this vice you`ve been dragging around Todder?

>Well, it's not a repair job like yours but I've been building a blanket box for approx 4 years now. It was to be a wedding gift for my little brother but it's kinda late. Works out well because he is now divorced. Dunno when I will finish it. Don't care. Too many other things that interest me right now (subject to change without notice).

Sounds about right

>Children can distract you from those projects. I got back into ww when mine grew up and found a pair of Cr*fstman pipe clamps new in the box. Went down to HD and got some pipe. Clamps were mine after about twenty years.

You just reminded me!

Steve Kubien

>Thanks Jim! You've reminded me that I have a pair of Craftsman pipe clamps behind the tablesaw (fell off during a reorganization), new in the box, never been opened. Mine aren't vintage ones like yours. They're only about 3 years old.

Cheers!

Bob, I went to Lowes

Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native in FL. Exile :~(

>To get some glue and while I was there I decided to get a long 1/4" carriage bolt for the vise. Went home, looked in my hardware bins for a spring, the washers and a wignut, and Presto!! The vise is ready for action once again.

I've been busy sorting out all my tools, hanging stuff up etc, etc, and this one finally came to the top of the heap---again, so I fixed it right up. Now I've got to bound it to a square block so that I can either put it in my bench vise or too be able to clamp it to a benchtop. Fiqure by the year 2024 that should be done. ;~)

Now get busy one that tiller! SHEEEEEEEESH!
