Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>I've been watching the No 79 linked below, figuring that with the worn screw and wear on the sole, it would go low. But, no - it's at $51 with a full day to go. Strange.

>I recently saw a broken block plane for for $80!! I wantrd the seller to post it here, but he didn't. :~( Really thought it wasn't my place as it is one of our own.

Maybe this 79 is valuable as a parts plane eh?

Most of the time I don't think, but...

>Bill, It's an early 79 (made in USA), before the depth stop days. It's probably going to a collector. Looking at the bid history it's a rookie going against a somewhat experanced bidder, so who realy knows...

I have an a made in England one and it preforms well after a bit of tuning. They sell for a LOT less than their American counterparts.

Good luck with your search, you may find more 75's ;^)...

>if you look closely at the second pic, there appears to be hairline cracks at the corner of BOTH mouths. This is a very thin, fragile trouble spot for these planes. I bought a WWII vintage 79 from ebay a few years ago with a small crack in one corner. I thought I got hosed at $37 but haven't seen a USA 79 sell for less since then.

>Makes me wonder what people think? a couple weeks ago I listed three back saws a nice D4 a CE jennings and a POS made in Japan gents saw. THe gents saw brought almost twice as much as the nice D4? makes me wonder who buys this stuff. but all of the buyers were happy and left good feed back. I sure am glad P. T. was right
