First auction...report

Steve Kubien

>Afternoon everybody,

Yesterday I attended my first auction. I will NOT be my last!!! I didn't know what to expect.

Lots of boxes of "other people's treasures" and a good number of tools. I don't think there was anything truly rare or valuable but I did manage to snag a few items. First was a box of brace bits. Lots of screwdriver-type bit, some spoon bits, a bunch of gimlets for the brace, forstners, countersinks, and a few things I cannot identify. Must be about 100 usable pieces in all for $6Cdn. Being an auction-virgin, I missed a few woodies hidden under a flag and other stuff. When the auctioneer showed them to the light, I noticed their beefy thick irons. $4 later, I had a 16" jack and two 26" jointers. One of the jointers needs some serious work (may not be worth it) but the other 2 look real good. Well, except for needing totes but that's a simple fix. A $2 froe, was a welcome addition and a box lot including Yankee a 130A, 31A, 41, and a Handyman. Oh yeah, an some fire brick for a small forge for another $2. All totalled, I spent $31Cdn, had a lot of fun and picked up some nice tools.

I can hardly wait until the Sunday auction!!!!!

Cheers,

>So? what is you eBay selling name? yah I know you don't have one. Yet! but it is a simple fact that soon you will have more than you need and that is a simple way to pay for what you want to keep. Sounds like a great score. don't be buyibg stuff that isn't in good shape there is more out there and it is best to wait for somthing good than to buy and have to fix and a week after you get it fixed you find it in good shape.

>Real nice stuff Rob, my gosh some truly unbelieveable stuff indeed. Thing that caught my attention the most tho was the copper 30" handsaw used to cut salt. Cut salt? Copper blade? Never heard of such a thing. can you tell us more about it?

I also very much liked the multi-bladed pocket knives. Inspector Gadget has nothing compared to these.

What is a rainette?

Sounds like you were buying cheap, which is always safe; if you're bidding amounts you won't miss, you can bid on anything.

But.

One of the first general laws of auction going (well - buying) is not to bid on items you haven't inspected.

>Hi Todd -

Can't tell you much more than what's listed there - the auction itself doesn't occur for a few weeks yet - and I don't have my catalogue...

"Rainette" - I believe is a scribe...
