Question - I ask to help figure what it's called

Doug Littlejohn

>genericly. What is the following generally referred to?

It has a shaft running horizontally, a pulley on an end but more often in the enter of the shaft. On either end there is an arbor for mounting a grinding stone. Usually this shaft assembly is held in some sort of housing where the shaft is supported by one or more bearings.

This assembly is used to create your own sharpening station where you mount it, mount a motor, run a belt from the motor to the pulley on the shaft, mount your grindstones or buffer wheels, etc.

I can't for the life of me remember (if I ever knew) what the assembly is generally referred to.

Can anyone help me out? I'm sure it's obvious and I'll get many answers, but sometimes one just has to swallow ones pride and admit the mind doesn't always work like you would want it to.

TIA,

Sherwood

Is that it Doug?

>Is the one that Todd showed you the one that you have, or have in mind? I have one that is just as you describe, pulley in the center, can mount a stone or buffing wheel, or wire wheel on either end, but the body is heavy cast iron. I also have one like the one Todd showed, that I'm quite sure is only for buffing wheels.

>I will take some pictures and post tomorrow for all to see. I have a couple of different kinds but all serve a similar purpose.

Thanks,
