Galootapalooza X

>I just wanted to say thanks to all the folks who put together GX, it was my first one and I had a great time. Thanks especially to Ralph Brendler for giving the Shaker oval box class, I loved it, and needless to say I'm hooked. I'll post some pictures when I get a chance. Thanks also to Chris Schwarz who gave an ecellent lecture on draw boring and gave out copies of the Autumn 05 Woodworking, I've already just about read it cover to cover. Thanks again to everybody I'm already looking foward to next year's GXI.

>Thanks to all involved (Ralph, Slav, John M., Wes, Russ, etc.) Great classes from Ralph and Gil. (Shaker Box and Bow Saw) Chris Schwarz did an excellent presentation on draw boring.

Mini tool swap in back parking lot. (1/2" monstrous pig sticker mortise, 1/4" pig sticker mortise, low angle knuckle buster) 10% discount from our host, Palatine Woodcraft store. (6000 grit stone to replace the one I knocked off the bench OUCH!!, Hock chip breaker and iron for #4)

BBQ out back with blacksmithing demo. (Wes and Russ) Discovered that a propane powered, hair dryer bellows forge can actually produce enough heat to MELT A CAST IRON CRUCIBLE!!!! Cool stuff. BBQ, beer, and hanging out in a hot parking lot with a bunch of neanderthals, you gotta love it. (Tip: Keep a lot of ice in the cooler with the Guinness.)

Following day, Garfield Farm with the same crew. (12" Starret complete with all heads, Disston 4 backsaw, 51 spoke shave, 8c type 6?, assorted chisels, Yankee driver, yada yada yada.)

Met some great gents, learned quite a bit, picked up some cool tools, and had a great time.

Once again, thanks to all involved..

Gerry
