>Fritzer,

Check out the WC articles, some really good information in there! Including an article that I have provided a link to by Ellis, Howard Acheson and Sir William!

Might help a bit... what kind of problems are you experiencing with your scraper anyways?

>If you get DIY, record the David Marks episode for sharpening. He has a good demo of how he uses a block of wood to keep it 90 to the stone, and watching him hand scrape you see huge curlies coming off.

>Fritzer,

I guess I've made just about every mistake possible while I was learning to sharpen my scrapers (make that "...while I am learning..."). One of them--maybe the biggest--was using way too much pressure when burnishing. I finally learned that really bearing down on my burnisher was doing me no good: it ruined one perfectly good burnisher; and it made the burr way too big--so big it bent over or came off on the first swipe. For a long time I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting those nice, fluffy little shavings.

If you're wondering if you're using enough pressure, it's possible--maybe even likely--you're using too much.
