>Roger Smith has a nice article on H.C.Marsh planes (and later, Marsh-Stanley planes), in PTAMPIA, Vol II, pg 310-311. They are quite collectable, and the it has been my experience that the No.2 generally brings more than an equivalent Stanley version due to its relative scarcity.

A good friend of mine is an avid collector of Marsh planes. Nice find.

>The H.C. Marsh company was a large tool company based in Rockford, IL. They started making bailey style planes after Stanley's original patents ran out.until they were bought out by Stanley sometime around WWII. They made planes for Stanley after that until something like 1929 - I think. I'm not exactly sure when the factory shut down. They were probably most famous for their miter box, which I believe became Stanley's as well.

One of my favorite smoothing planes is a Marsh transitional plane that was bought used by my grandad in the 1930's:

There's more info on the company at the oldtools site if you're interested.
