LV Honing Guide

les winter

>A few weeks ago I posted that my new LV honing guide did not give me a squared edge and nipped off the corner of the blade: the projection jig caught the blade and on tightening the hold-downs, the blade would slightly shift.

Two weeks ago I got a call at home from LV. They had spotted my post and felt that my honing guide was defective. They sent me another. This one works as advertised. It's a lovely tool. Lovely company too.

Once they have the defective one in their hands and I learn what was wrong, I'll post the word.

I've likely used every honing guide out there and hone free hand as well. IMO, this one is the best you can buy.

Just can't beat it

>Les,

your post is one Of many, many, many expounding the Above And Beyond The Call of Duty customer service of Rob Lee, and his Gang, and yet, I must confess to my jaw dropping when I read your post. Imagine, you didn't even fuss to them, nor return the tool (that I know of) and yet, they went thru the time and trouble to look into their records to find your telephone number and than contact you. Its phenomanal service like this that will ensure their place in the record books of Worlds Greatest Business.

Thanks for sharing this Excellent Experiance.

>Les,

Yet another story about Lee Valley's phenominal customer service. I've run out of superlatives to describe it. Not "run out" really; it's that the adjectives that are usually used are inadequate, they don't convey the right ideas.

'Wonderful,' 'great,' 'outstanding,' and other commmonly used superlatives are used too often, they're too common, their meanings are too dilute; they don't convey the idea of rarity, of how very unusual is Lee Valley's standard of service. 'Splendiferous' comes closer; but it lacks the notion of pure quality, and has the connotations of 'gaudy' and 'insincere'. The German ausgezeichnet is almost perfect--almost; it's not perfect because it is, after all, German, not English. If only ausgezeichnet had an English equivalent... Oh well...

Does anyone have any ideas?...er...words? We need to find the right locution if we're to give Lee Valley the praise they deserve.

How about superior?

>LV even blew me away last week. An extremely strong workshop helper (he lifted a 300 lb concrete slab solo) broke the thick handle on my border spade trying to dig up a small tree. I bought this 4 years ago and considered this our fault, so I emailed LV to get a replacement handle (didn't think I could easily make one, it's one of those D types). Turns out they don't sell them, but they are replacing the spade free of charge. I was almost embarrassed to accept it.

They serve as the model

Doug Littlejohn

>by which all other companies should take to heart. In this world of 'give it to me now' and 'at the cheapist price' they stand heads above any other company I have dealt with.

What I find truley amazing is that even with the incredible customer service, their prices are almost always competitive with the 'cheapies'.

I often shake my head when I hear stories like this and then I go fill out another order. I just wish I had more $$ to spend their. As it is, they get 90% of my WW dollars, heck, the only times I DON'T look to them is when I'm buying wood.

BTW - I've also started buying some items in their gardening line as well, and no surprise, excellant quality items at a very fair price (haven't had to get any extra service there yet).

Just can't say enough good things about them, I hope the colleges are listening, they should be the model . . . .
