Several Japanese carpenters and plane makers came to my college and were demonstrating their tools and craftwork. They had a 12" plane like the one in the photo, but the dai (body) warped due to the change in humidity between Japan and San Diego. They didn't want to retune the dai just for a demo, so I never got to see that one in use.
