bead work

Marion R.

>I need to put a double bead on 10 pieces of 7/16" parting strips that are 7 foot long. I have the L-N beading tool and used it the last time I did this. I also have a combination plane (Stanley 50) without a blade for beading. If I make a blade, do I put a bevel like is on the other blades.(At what degree?) or is it made with a 90 degree angle like the L-N?

Thanks

>You should bevel the blade like the other blades for your tool. Because the blade is bedded in the plane at around 50 degrees you need to have a bevel somewhat less than that for clearence. With the beading tool the blade is held nearly perpendicular to the surface of the wood.

Try this

>Scraper blades are 90 degrees because they are held vertical to a steep York pitch. The blades on your #50 cut at 45 degrees and should be ground at about a 30 degree angle for proper sharpening. A double bead can be done with the #50 by making two passes with a single bead blade. After the first one, you don't even need the fence. Just set it up so that the blade *rides the quirt*. Good luck.

>I went fishing over weekend and didn't make blade for 50 comb. plane. Instead, I ran the bead with L-N.

I done 35 feet so far. The cutter isn't quite the right size so I cleanup the sides with block plane.
