Question about a Tyzack saw
Skip in Falls Church
>I picked up a Tyzack Sons & Turner No 24 10 inch 13 tpi (rip) Nonpareil Elephant logo back saw with split nuts. Unfortunately (well, not really – but I gotta say that) the grip of the open handle is gone. Actually about all that’s left of the handle is the part around the split nuts. Does anyone have any idea how old this thing would be? I know Tyzack made saws for a long time.
Also, after communicating with Adam - I'm looking for some pictures of saws over 150 years old. He seems to think the older handles were a lot better and I'd like to try it out. (Seems I have a good victim on my hands.) He recommended that I check out the saws in The Tool Chest of Benjamin Seaton - however, it seems to be out of print and I haven't been able to locate a copy. Anyone have a copy they'd like to lend or sell me or maybe make copies of the pages with saws on them? Any help would be appreciated.
On the other hand I guess I could go a whole different direction and try making Panther Head handles to fit saws other than Woodrough and McParlin saws. :)
