A small stool in doug fir.

>A small stool in reclaimed doug fir, inspired by a three legged table I saw Roy Underhill complete last saturday on our local pbs. I nabbed his process for converting square materials to hexagons by planing them down.
I was very fortunate to be able to salvage many knot free qs doug fir two by fours from a remodel at my parents 1930 bungalow. Not knowing what to do with them I let them sit for a month or two. Yesterday morning I processed two of them into the rough lumber needed to complete this stool and in the afternoon shaped the parts and proceeded to do the joinery. This afternoon after work I made the backrest. For now it is complete.
I will admit to cheating on making the round tenons, I made a fixture for my router as my attempt at building a tenoning fixture for a plane blade failed. The legs and cross members were shaped using a drawknife and a jointer plane. The top was done with a spoon bottom plane and a scraper. The rest of it was pretty normal.

I think it turned out nicely. The stool has some built in age and a bit of interest for me as it came from my former home. I enjoyed the process enough I am now trying to find a tenon auger. I will surely build another.
