Tail Vise Face Angle?

>Hi All,

I'm planning the tail vise design for my bench and was wondering if one needs to angle the face to the front of the bench. Or is this just a problem with a front vise. The bench is european style with traditional tail vise. thanks.

>Darin,

The faces of my homemade tail-vise are flat and square. I have never seen or heard of angling the faces of these vises. If I was you I'd build them flat and square, and if the need arises to hold an irregular shaped items than a bag or two of sand or lead shot between the object and the faces should be of big help.

Wooooooooo bet you feel like a speck in the middle of the desert what with all this heated and passinate discussion going both above and below your post eh? Ahhhhhhhhhhhh poor Darin, asked a simple question and than all he!! broke loose around him. Good luck with your bench.

>You kinda got lost in the bench "noise", sorry about that. My bench is traditional with tail vise and face vise. Keep the tail vise jaws flat and square. There is no sag or give to counter with a traditional tail vise. Keep asking questions. You will get answers (sometimes even qualified opinions).
