Successful rust hunt

Jack Guzman from Maine

>My wife and I were out yardsaleing(is that a word)yesterday and we stopped at a barn sale way off the beaten path.We had seen the sign before but never thought it was worth the backwoods journey. This place was a permanent flea market with stuff on consignment from over a hundred sellers. On one table I found the elusive Millers falls cigar shave. No rust, sharp iron and just needs a little cleaning.$7 That alone was worth the trip. Also I found a perfect(even honed)Stanley 100 squirrel tail and an adjustable spoke shave. No name, the shave has a chipbreaker and a one screw adjuster that works just like the 151.This shave was also sharp ,rustless and clean.I will be checking back at this place.---Jack

>What would ever make you think that a backwoods journey to a Barn Sale wouldn't be worth? Let's see now, backwoods journey, potential for rust, support spouse of your rust-habit, hmmmmmmmmmmmm, evenif you didn't find any rust it seems to me that it would be worth it.

Congrats, on the nice finds. How much $ for the squrril tail.

I bet next weekend when you go Bob'll be right on your tail!

>Heck I paid over twice that($25) for a WWII vintage smooth bottom #6 at Montsweag.Had the hard rubber adjuster wheel and almost new original SW iron in it.95% jappaning and good wood too.

How come they quit using brass for the adjuster wheel and then made the casting 1/2 again as thick?didn`t they know there was a war on?

Also picked up a neat 1 1/2 James Swan socket chisel.Has a heavy swan stamp on the blade and on the socket it has THE JAMES SWAN CO in an arc over another swan and under the trademark it looks like Seymor CT.First one I`ve seen like it.Oh yeah,it cost $4.Beep,beep.

PS-I`d tell you about the old widdow woman that my wife does gardening for that is going to GIVE me her late husband`s tool collection but that might send Todder over the edge.Let`s just say my wife told me about a stack of handsaws, some with split nuts(yes she knows what those are) and a couple of big wood boxes I`ll have to pick the locks on.Things are looking up here on the coast.:^)

>Haven`t laid eyes on any of the tools yet. These sort of things can`t be rushed, they`re meant to be savored.

BTW-I drive SWMBO crazy with my ability to get a package in the mail and then leave it sitting around unopened for hours or days. With her packages are lucky to make it to the car unopened, even in the rain or snow.

I`ll probably get to see it this weekend when she goes over to finish planting.I`ll probably take my time opening the boxes as it will be worth it just for the entertainment factor with the wife hovering over them.If she could figure out a way to shake them like she does Xmas presents I`m sure she would.
