>Here's a picture of a little Krenov-style smoother Rod Peterson and I made with the help of a few other woodworkers on Sunday. Roughly 10" long and 2 1/2" wide with a 1 1/3" x 4 1/2" "iron" which Rod ground out of an edger blade. Lots of fun.

Looks good but...

>Nice looking piece of work. How are the shavings?

Also, how's about a note about who is in the picture. I haven't been lucky enough to meet too many of you but it is always nice to put faces to names (yup, even the ugly faces!).

Cheers,

Shavings? This thing is supposed to make shavings?! Well, it does, sort of, needs more honing; we ran out of time, but sharp enough to make me bleed. 10" long, about 2 1/2" wide with a 1 3/4 iron made from an edger blade. The iron actually sharpened up pretty nicely. Yet to be seen how long it will hold its edge.

>Yeah, they are. I had previously made a high angle smoother out of a block of zircote. Still refining that one, need to open it a bit; jams up with shavings.

We had plans to make two on Sunday; one to give to David and one for a door prize. Failed to figure in the extra time required working in someone else's shop. Work for five minutes, look for a tool for ten, work for five, look for a tool . . .

David seemed pleased with the effort. Maybe he'll even use it. :)
