Victory plane iron?

Jerry Nicholson

>I just got a Stanley #7 that has a Victory (Made In USA) iron. Is the Victory iron a decent "after market" iron or is it just a cheap replacement for a Stanley iron? I haven't tried to sharpen it yet so I don't know if it is soft or hard.

>That fits - the blade adjustment nut is steel and the frog has not been drilled and tapped for the frog adjusment tab. However, the base of the plane, in really nice condition by the way, is tapped for the frog adjuster, does not have the flat rib around the toe and heel, has no dates, and does have the raised ring for the knob. This makes it a type 15, which dates to 1931-1932. So this plane is a hybrid - not a problem but interesting.
