>Last week I happened to be in a gallery that shows my work and chanced to get into a conversation with a gentleman who was looking at a table I'd made.

He was drawn especially to the show card which explained not only what materials were used but also pointed out the nature of hand work (planing, DTs, etc).

He had been in England the week before taking a one-week class with David Charlesworth; he said it was the best learning experience he'd ever had (not just in woodworking) and his wife loved the area and had no complaints about being left alone for 12 hours each day.

I just about have SWMBO convinced that we should go England (for me) and Italy (for her) to celebrate our anniversary. Wish me luck; if we do make the trip I know exactly what I'll be doing during my part of the trip.

That sounds like a wonderful time. I went to England and France for a week (for work) and took my wife along. We had SO MUCH fun even with the minimum amount of time we actually had. The antique stores are great also, though I couldn't really afford to buy anything. Don't take your chisels on the airplane!

>I attended David's 12 week course last September and can highly recommend taking any length of course with him. We house exchanged with a couple of people over there to keep the costs down and also spent a weekend in Venice which my wife (and I also) thoroughly enjoyed.

>Did you take all your tools with you? I've often wanted to travel but fear bringing tools along would be a big headache and worry about the loss of them. Did you get to build a piece and bring it home?

>Yes I took all my tools, Air Canada were very good (you don,t hear that too often) about it. I put them in a hard case (like the camera people use)and locked it . I told the check in girl what it was and she said it was fine.

No , we didn't make any pieces ( that is his 24 week course) but I made plenty of joints.

As I understand DC's methods, you also tuned your tools pretty well.
