>I am thinking about putting together a woodworking class for my kid's high school. The facilities are limited so the projects would be more hand skills related and perhaps have one or two small projects, maybe even making a hand plane, spokeshave, etc. I would also like to have some design content. Does anyone know of a curriculum that I could use as a model or a book or any other ideas? I am still working on the overall vision.

>You might want to check out Richard Starr's books: "Woodworking with Kids" and "Woodworking with Your Kids".

I have the first one and it's based on his experiences teaching woodworking in a New Hampshire middle school. I believe it is out of print, so you might have to dig a little to get your hands on it. It's not a curriculum, but you might find it helpful - especially in an overall vision kind of way. I found it inspirational to see what kids could create with hand tools.

I haven't seen the second one in person, but I just looked at it on Amazon and based on its table of contents, it seems to be a reworking of the first book. Maybe someone else has it and can give more details/review.

Hope this helps.

There is an interesting article on teaching kids in the brand-new Woodwork magazine. It's primarily about teaching woodworking to elementary school students, but it has some interesting background, and also a useful looking bench.
