New/old source for finishing resins & materials... *LINK*

John Aniano in NJ...

>Hello All,

Well I was searching the Web the other day for methods for using an esoteric wood filler material (lycopodium, if you have to ask) and found this website. "Found" is the operative word here in like I found an old friend. Way back in 1981 or so, while reading Fine Woodworking magazine, I learned of a firm called WoodFinishing Enterprises that sold what some would call oddball or unusual resins, colorants, polishing materials, etc. for use in wood finishing. I got their catalog and purchased a number of products and was very pleased. A number of my co-workers, like me, also obtained materials from them, items that were not readily available at that time. I still have a marked up paper catalog from 1982!

Fast forward maybe 10 years later, I tried to order from them again, but the phone # didn't work and then when using pre-internet phone directory searching failed, I assumed the firm closed. I'm pretty sure I did a similar search when PC web searching first became available, but no matches. Until the other night!

During my "lycopodium" search - up came their website. The site has lots of materials that period woodworkers might very much want to try in their finishing endeavors. Also, they seem to have a number of technical papers on techniques and links to further resources to finishing methods and varnish recipes.

Through the "lost" years, I had been occasionally purchasing finishing materials through Kremer Pigments, a great company, but it is said that a little competition is usually a good thing, right?

John

P.S. I have no affiliation with either firm mentioned above, except that I've been a satisfied customer of both in years past.

>Wow, what an unusual resource. Who would not want to be able to say that he uses Dragon's Blood in his work?
