How about slant the dog head?

Darin in Victoria

>Round dogs normally are seated perpendicular with a 2 to 3 degree slant on the top of the dog. Can you just do the same with a square dog? Just a thought, I've never actually tried doing that way.

>Hi Darin -

Yes, you can - and I did. I built my bench top out of spruce, and was interested in giving the wood a little room to compress under pressure from the end vice.

Works fine. Haven't really noticed that the spruce has any "give" in it anyway as a result of clamping using the end vise.

(The Lee Valley site shows their square dogs with illustration of them installed in one of their vises, link attached)
