Trying to Identify a plane
Todd Hall
>Found a nice looking block plane with only minor surface rust in a flea market for ten bucks. Overall length is 9 7/16 inches from tip to tail. The base has two marks on it. One says MADE IN USA and the other one on the base is located on the mounting for the frog, its a stamp, C73. The frog is cast steel and has a stamped number on it as well, C44. I cannot find any other identification marks on it. The hardware that holds the knob and tote on are brass I think. All other adjustment hardware also appears to be brass. The tote had tape on the handle and is broken in half and the knob is cracked so, I will be hoping to find some parts. Any direction on how to find out the manufacture of this tool or web sites for identifying block planes would be appreciated. Thanks!
PS--Also found a Stanley No. 6 plane for 40.00. Is this a good price? It was in very good condition as far as I could tell.
