A cabinet of appreciation.

>I thought I would let you see my practice cabinet for the hanging wall cabinet competition. Maybe, goad those who have not started into starting.

I will admit this was not purely for practice, this cabinet is an emergency commission I was given by my father to thank a good family friend for taking care of his mother while she was going through her chemo. She was unable to drive and with my grandfather being near blind he could not drive her to the cancer center for treatment and my own father being too far away to do so himself could not drive her either the friend picked up the role and carried it through. This week marks the second week of her all clear. So this is to both celebrate the all clear and thank her for her time and consideration.

A straight forward design, dovetailed carcass, coopered door, made of american beach and goncolo alves. This is the first time I have done a dovetailed carcass, I enjoyed the process but caught myself repeating my mistake of making my pins too large. A solid whiffen-niffer, nifty idea but clearly whiffed in the end.

Now to begin the real thing, lots of little things to fix.

>Very nice cabinet, Ed. I particularly like the coopered door.

And even nicer sentiment. I find myself handing out Shaker boxes for similar reasons.

Cheers!
