>An adjustable mouth on a SMT loopy?
Is that one of Mr. Thomas's planes?
Eric Hedberg
>I'm not digging out note's to see if I get it right, but I recognize the "dovetailing" on the side of the plane. Wasn't it a wink and a nod to modern manufacture (FWW?). Is that a new toy? If so, you lucky bench dog. Eric
A big tease?

>Ha! It's just an out of focus photo. You'll need a lot more PhotoShop training if you're going to fool us with one of those. It could be anything.
Next, you'll be telling us the photo was taken in a top secret vault in a bunker deep beneath the desert in Area 51. It's obviously alien technology, since the coffin sides and Knapp joints are way beyond human technology and metalurgical science.
Is the mouth adjuster differentally threaded? Is a vernier scale for fine adjustment etched into the sole and mouth plate?
OK, the sour grapes are tongue-in-cheek, as I'm sure you realize. Is it now in your possession? If so, congratulations. I'm sure the wait was well worth it. You'll have to explain the mouth adjustment mechanism, because I can't guess how it works. It is good to know that it was not necessary to put another screw head through the top of the infill.
What I'd really like to see is a photo of the scrapings of the sole, the mouthpiece and the blade bed. That's where the real artistry should be apparent. A gravity defying shaving of that curly purpleheart from Hell would also do a lot to convince us of the authenticity of the photo.
Mouth adjustment
Andrew F in Australia
>Hi Bill,
My guess on mouth adjustment is that it's a worm drive driven by the allen-head machine screw
Cheers,
Andrew
At First.....
Todd Hughes
>I thought it might be some type of new made wood plane but those screws look to me to be Allen head screws and I can't imagine something like that being used on even a cheap modern made plane.....Maybe some type of car or truck part?, with that thick machining looks kind of Russian......Todd
A thing of beauty!
Don Thompson - Cutler Ridge, Florida
>AKA, The Next Generation, Micro-adjustable-mouth SMT Loopy.
It might be that...

Re: New Indexable Throat Technology...
Doug Evans
>The old SMT Loopy had a floating throat plate which could be tightened a-la-62LAJack. What's the effective TPI?
Cheers,
Doug
You've been waiting for
Frank Mutchler in Colorado Springs
>that for some time. How long did it take from the time you placed an order? Congratulations, Lyn. You're one of a handful of people that is capable of thouroughly exploring the capabilities of that tool.

I'll send your regards. I sure wish he would decide to return to this group.

>It's actually been with me since the end of February, but I have been kind of out of action and haven't had a chance to work with it much.
I'll try to get you detailed answers over the next few weeks. Remind me if I forget.
Congratulations to you too, it will be a little tiny while longer, but I suspect it shouldn't be too long before you see something in cocobolo coming your way.
Just one photo for now
