>Derek, Thanks for the reply. I use oil stones mostly, but I also use diamond on cast iron lapping plates in certain situations. If the diamond will embed into the cast iron, what keeps it from embedding into the brass wheel? Cleaning the swarf off of the brass will not remove all of the grit. I don't think contamination is avoidable in any instance. I'm really concerned with if the amount of contamination is important.

>Hi Patrick

I have no experience of the effect from diamond on cast iron lapping plates, and would not even venture a guess. Someone else here will no doubt be able to throw some light on the matter.

>The main thing I'm looking for in this new guide is how it does with Japanese chisels. They are so short it's hard to find a guide that will hold them very well. The small Kell works, but when you get to the wide chisels the wheels are almost off the edge of the stone.

Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to someone trying this new guide on the Japanese chisels and letting us all know how it does.

Thanks,

Rusty

>History repeats itself - just prior to the release of a Veritas product, out comes another favorable review from a friend. Hmmm...

You're right. Veritas' run of great products is remarkable. I for one am very happy about that.

I have a FAR better offer

>Rob,

At great cost in time to myself I would be willing to review any of your products assuming that they are given to me at no cost. I will provide a list of items for you to ship to me (at your expense OF COURSE) and can almost promise to get around to testing them within the next 5 or 10 years or so.

Should any of my friends like the look of these items I shall, of course, expect you to ship out replacements to me for testing in due course.

Yours sincerely,

Ken

Japanese plane blade sharpening jig *LINK*

Pam Niedermayer - Austin, TX

>Here's the jig/guide I was talking about last week. This thing is built for plane blades and really does work. Don't know why the seller has withdrawn it from auction, but Harrelson and apparently rankar have sources.
