Stanley Rules

>Today I was given kind of a neat old rule: it's 5' long, made of wood and is in two pieces, when extended it's 10' long. My guess it was used in framing. The number is 510 and I can make out the word Stanley but little else.

I'm not interested in selling it, but I'm curious about it's use and history.

TIA for any help ... rj

>Walter says it was made from 1898 to 1968, so there are a lot of them out there I imagine. Value is listed at $25 to $75. Doesn't really say much about their use, but mentions that post WW2 it was made by Lufkin and has a "noticeably different construction". I imagine it was designed for large projects like entry door making or framing.

>I just picked up a 510 at an estate sale. It came from the lab at a local food processing plant about 50 years ago. I think it was used for measuring the interiors of hoppers and shipping crates.

Mine is kind of beat up and doesn't look like the ones that Donnely has pictures of on www.mjdtools.com - the numbers on mine are much more ornate.
