tool handle ID help

eric

>Picked this up this morning at an estate sale. The only maker's mark I can find is a Disston and a keystone with scales on the end of the file. Does anyone know if this is indeed a Disston tool? Can someone suggest where I can go to find information on this and/or suggest an approximate date of manufacture? It is huge and the handle appears to be rosewood. What is the best way to clean the knurling? It is heavily rusted.

Thanks,

Eric

>Best way I`ve found to clean up knurling is to use a small wire brush(like the kind plumbers use to prep joints, about the sizeof a large toothbrush)and brush in the direction of the knurling, both ways. It`ll be shining in no time.

I use these brushes all the time for tool cleaning and they can even remove rust from plane bodies down to brite metal while still leaving what`s left of the jappaning intact and unscratched.Think of them as"The Hulk`s toothbrush",that`s what my son calls them.

>thank you - tried the wire brush it removed most of the heavy scale but looked like it was going to scratch up the smooth areas, now I'm setting up for electrolosys.
