I actually do make things...

Here is the finally (almost) finished side tables from the plan that Michael Dunbar did in FWW.
The materials are Red Gum (a eucalyptus) and Huon Pine veneer (this pin knot figure is sometimes called birds eye but it isn't) on the drawer face. Secondary woods are Hoop Pine for the drawer sides and back, The actual drawer front is some old growth Douglas Fir that I had with very small growth rings and the drawer base is Western Red Cedar rescued from my neighbour's wall panelling that was being thrown out.
The Red Gum was a mistake I wont make again though it does look spectacular. The figure is best shown on the side apron here. The top is the same but can't be seen.
The finish is Organoil (http://www.organoil.com.au) and it was power sanded in up to 1600. There is wax to be put on yet.
The drawer is unfinished in this photo. I will be using dewaxed white shellac for the Huon Pine and oiling the cock bead to match the rest of the piece.
Hardware (also not shown) is bright brass model H-10S (http://www.horton-brasses.com/products/drawerpulls/rosette/24) from Horton Brasses. I didn't want this to look antique as I have made no attempt to antiquify the finish hence the bright brass hardware. Besides it will look great against the Huon Pine veneer. The hardware is beautifully made and I am very pleased with the product.
