Something new for me

Jeremy Osner

>The letter came yesterday, informing me I've been accepted to the Master's Degree program at Columbia University School of Engineering. So for the next couple of years I'm going to be working during the day time, studying computer science at night. Hope I still can find some time for wood!

Congratulations!

Clay C in Miami

>Congrats! - An ex-gf of mine is just finishing her Ph.D. at Columbia and by the end of May, she's moving out of a pretty nice/reasonable $ apartment (for NYC - for anywhere else of course it's laughable) in Greystone (at 91st and Columbus, IIRC). I know this apartment was rent-subsidized for her as a Columbia grad student, but don't know otherwise how that all works - Her name's Laurie Rice, email me if you want her contact info.

>Cool Clay, and thanks mucho for the offer -- I live in NJ within commuting distance of the city (where I work) and am not moving.

Clay C in Miami

>Nice - I was afraid you were gonna suffer the same sort of sticker shock that she did on arriving from Miami Beach and hunting for housing. Compared to the rents, $6 daily toll for a NJ round trip seems picayune!

Enjoy yourself (when you can),

Clay

>Wax all the tools up you'll have no free time but a degree from Columbia would be worth it.

Congratulations

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>It's hard work, Jeremy - I struggled through getting my degree (BA) working full-time, raising two kids, and working what felt like full-time again on an old house and clapped-out cars. "Study hour" started about 9:00, when the kiddies were finally in bed - but it's worth it.

Are you an I.T. person now?

Re: Great!

Jeremy Osner

>Yep, I've been a programmer ever since I started my B.S. (Brooklyn College) in '93. (I took classes for my undergraduate at night too; but that was easier than I am picturing the Master's being, plus I had not kid.)
