planeing board, scraper problem
chichi
>I have two questions.
1) Some time ago, I saw a picture of a very simple device to use for planeing a board if a full size work bench is not available. I believe it was just a 2x6 or 2x8 which was nailed to a cleat spiked into a wall. The other end was a leg made of same material as top which supported the planeing board. It was probably 6 to8 feet long. The work piece was clamped to the plane board and that is all there was to it. I am sure I dont have the description exactly right, but I would like to know if anyone has used this and could describe better so I can make one to use when bench is occupied.
2) I made a scraper out of old saw blade and have not had much success. Should the blade be beveled thin like a knife or left full thickness which is about 60 thou. I do have another found piece of steel a little thicker and I can sometimes get a good burr. I follow the instructions given in the tutorial and on a couple of videos and books.. I draw file and then go over the edge with back of chisel. I then burnish both sides of the edge with the chisel(back of chisel)angling slightly from 90 deg.. What do I look for or listen for? I just cant get a burr worth diddle on the saw steel. What is the mistake to most avoid?
Thanks,
bob
