Gonna need a cheap van--REAL SOON

Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native in FL. Exile :~(

>As in just right at 6 hours!! Also would like to know of ant nice locations down by the river.

Went a little hog-wild and bought something that I simply couldn't resist, and I know that my wife is gonna fry my backside, but sometimes you just gotta say what the #ell eh?

Truthfuly I think I got a decent deal on this as I feel that finding this item in this size is extremely difficult at best. I don't even think I'll use it, but just tuck it away and when the gloats get to flying whip it out as my Gloaters Trump of all time (other than that impossible to beat $3 #1 up in Canada).

If I beat out anybody here on this item I am truly sorry, but as soon as I saw this a few days back I vowed it to be mine. It got ugly in the final minutes/seconds and I had to up my bid twice, but I ultimately won--until I get home that is. ;~)

>What were you thinking? I will be looking a little closer at those stones I guess. I bid one up to $15 last year here at a local auction, guess next time I'll just go right on up to 20 or 30. Course, I wouldn't have used it anyway, as the label and box were still like new, and it was a Pike sharpening stone. Kinda have to admit I have a stone fetish too, but Megan just looked over my shoulder and agreed she'd kill me if I ever spent that kind of money on a rock for myself.

>But Moses, when was the last time you saw a 8"x2"x1" Translucent? I've been looking for and watching them on e-bay for several years now and the biggest one I ever saw was 6"x2"x1/2 and they go for big $$ as well. DAMHIKT. :~(

I felt that for a Translucent this size it was worth the money and consider it an investment, that's why I'm not gonna use it.

Did you see what this little Lily White went for, now that's insane in my eyes.

Note to self....

Todd Hughes

>buy more sharpening stones!....nice stone though am a little surprsied it went that high esp for condition and no pike fish on it. Few years ago I sold a huge translucient that was maybe 4 X 10 much bigger then any stone I have seen. Was in a neat wooden box with lots of writing and apparently it was sold for sharpening cutters for some antique machine [I forget all the details!] Went for about $175 if I remember right and I thought it would do a bit better...Well think i will go and dig around for that Pike metal whet stone holder i got somewhere or the other....Todd

One thing to remember...there will always be another one on ebay.

Now we all know your call sign too, look out Todd

Todder you ain't got enough years left in ya to hurt that stone.

My first translucent got drop tested by my apprentice at work. Two pieces:-(

Got a replacement from Joel at Tools For Working Wood. Same stone but slightly(1/4") thinner. Use it and enjoy it.JR

>Trust me Scott this isn't my norm and have let alot of other stuff go because I felt it was to high, or at least was too high for me, but this I wanted and was bound and determined to get it. Actually it serves double duty as it satisfies and interest of "Things from the Earth"/Stone collection and of coarse my Woodworking interest.

I'm certainly not concerned with others here knowing my ebay name as a matter of fact I wish everybody knew it and I wish I knew others ebay names as well so that I don't inadvertantly bid against them and vise-versa.

>Yeah, I wish it had the Pike also, but I am satisfied with it none-the-less. I think had the seller put the word "translucent" in his write-up it would of went for higher $$$. I fiqure he just didn't know it was a translucent. I'm happy that he didn't. Really didn't fiqure it would go that high just for that reason, but the other fellow who was bidding for it knew it was a translucent as did I. dang it, there one in every crowd I swear. (and sometimes it me):~)

A 4x10 Translucent? How thick? I'd of p[assed out if I had of seen that I think. Now I'm on the hunt again, dang you Todd.

>Thank you, Todd. Every time I hone a chisel (even my exorbitantly priced L-Ns), or a plane blade, or a carving gouge, or a turning tool, or even a lowly nicker, I fondly remember the day I hauled a bunch of rust and iron and steel for you, and the translucent you gave me in appreciation. I wasn't expecting anything like that.

If you need any more stuff hauled, just whistle. I figure I still owe you.

BTW, I let a fine anvil get away from me at CRAFTS last Saturday. You are welcome to kick me for my dumbnocity, the next time we get together.

Good luck selling almost a buck and a half on a rock to the wife. Let me know how it turns out. If you pull it off, maybe you can charge for lessons.

How I sold this to the wife

Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native in FL. Exile :~(

>I got home from work at just about 10 p.m. Walked in the front door and exchanged pleasentries for a few minutes, and than I said "Honey you may not like this but I spent $150 today on e-bay". She said "For what" and I replied "A Sharpening Stone, I'm going to take a shower" that was it, not another word about it was said. Kinda' makes me suspicious wondering what this is ultimatly gonna cost me. She tends to retailate with a major expense.

Hey, compared to her I spend very little money for the most part and she'll even admit to that. Sure I spend a few $ every week on rust, but nothing major. Fiqure I'm over-due for something extravagent.

Did I mention I've got my eye on something else on e-bay? :~0
