Help dating Stanley logo?

Scott in Douglassville, PA

>Hey, everyone -

Picked up an old unnamed concave shave on eBay last week. It's grimy, but in fairly good shape. Started attacking it with some 600 grit, and turned out to be an old Stanley 55, but I haven't been able to date the logo on the iron:

Anyone seen this logo before? Says, "Stanley Rule" in an arc above the screw slot, but nothing else anywhere.

Thanks,

Scott

>befor the slot was cut into the blade the logo said Stanley rule and level which is known as the "bee hive mark and was first used in the late 1880s. Am a little surpsied that the slot would be into the logo but guess it had to go somewhere...always the posibilty that the blade was made out of another non slotted blade. Don't know when this logot was stopped being used on spoke shaves but think probably around 1900. you can date shaves by if they have holes in the handle which first started to show up around 1890. Numbers first came out sometime befor 1900 on many of the shaves. In my experance older , 1800s , shaves are heavier then more modern ones...Todd

>That all jives with the "B" cast into one arm and under the cap, holes, and no numbers. Sounds like a 1899-1902 vintage 55. Gotta clean it up now and get it to work.

Thanks for the info.
