>Great job.

I bought SWMBO a stack of unfinished ones for Xmas hoping to get her into a little WW'n, she didn't bite. But at the mill they had a stack of a dozen, made out of Birds Eye Maple. This was one beautiful stack of boxes. I think they wanted $2500 for the stack.

Wonderful looking Shaker boxes, I love the classic form.

Thanks for posting them.

>Nice boxes!

A bunch of us from the Oakville/Burlington area are taking a shaker box class next Friday & Saturday at our local Lee Valley store. I've been perusing Ralph's site, reading his shaker box tutorial, and I am going to start assembling my own set of tools this week. Can't hardly wait...

>Hi Jim,

Well, if I'm gonna make more of these things I'd better have the equipment for it. I have to make a tray for boiling bands (better find a sheet metal shop for that), forms and shapers, an anvil, and I think I have a hand grinder somewhere that I can convert into a disk sander. I have a veneer scraper and bandsaur for making my own bands (well, *maybe* my saw can be tuned to do that, we shall see), tack hammers and small drills.

See you in school, Jim. Maybe we can hang out together at recess, eh?

>if you get a chance to take Ralph's class, do so! he's a great guy and a very good teacher.

here's another web site -- john wilson, who is the only one in the world to make the tacks. he's got a class booklet that Ralph references.

other than the tray, i've gotten all my jigs made for round 1-4. now just have to learn how to make the copper steam tray!

>Check out the class schedule at Fletcher Farms

in Ludlow, Vermont...they're on the web at

http://www.fletcherfarm.com and they have a

shaker box class coming up in late July.

It's a long weekend of nothing but woodworking

and pleasant company and you end up with a set

of SIX boxes. I took it a few years back, and

had a blast.

>I have a friend here who boils wood, for woven baskets, not shaker boxes, but the principle is the same. He doesn't use anything fancy or custom-made. There's lots of sheet metal stuff that will hold water. I think he made one of his boilers from about three feet of rain gutter.
