Ohmigawd, I'm collecting 75s!

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>At least that's what I guess I did today - we were out garbage saling (best haul was a fat handful of miscellaneous things, nothing fancy, but $1 for the whole), and I paid $1 for a Stanley 75, of which I already have one more than anyone needs (that is, I owned one already). Worse, it's the dreaded blue color!

Someone please stop me.

If there's anyone who is lusting after one of these and hasn't been able to find it locally, ping me offline...

>I was making a stopped rabbet in a case back and the 75 was all I had to finish it with.My 75 has a blade that is wider than the body to the point that when one side is set the other hangs over too far.I needed to cut both ends of 6 different rabbets. After readjusting this monster several times(and cutting myself on the iron)I remembered a rusty one I had somewhere that I never cleaned up. I dug it out, cleaned it up,honed it and set it up for the opposite cut and now I have a left and right side 75.Ready to go for emergencies.

Just food for thought. Some people never use them but I find a use for them from time to time.---Jack

>Well bill so it goes eh? Could be worse you know, you could be collecting #8's. The 75's take up very little space and could double as functional art parperweights or something. If you're "collecting" them on the cheap than what the heck. We all have our weaknesses(weather we'll admit it or not). I got hooked on chisels, saws, braces and assorted bits, sharpening stones, block planes, bench planes, and, hey wait a minute, I'm collecting everything! See could be worse. I say to just settle on in and enjoy your collection and "the hunt".

>Todd C. is right they are small and don't take up to much room. I think you could even stack them on top of each other with out to much trouble if you lay them on thier sides.....Todd

>Relax. There's nothing to worry about. All you have is a couple of 75's. It takes a minimum of three of something to have a collection. I started collecting one of each possible logo and/or color combo of the Stanley 100 & 101 and all the copies and clones made by everyone who ever cast a tool in the last 128 years. I'm up to 71 different pieces. And you thought you had a problem....
