>My 4" hole is dull. It's more like a firestarter than a cutting tool. Can I sharpen it with a file? How so?

Thanks in Advance

I wouldn't worry too much about technique. They're not exactly precision tools. So long as they cut who cares.

I score the piece to be cut with the saw then back off. Then I drill a through hole on the circumference of the cut with a reasonably large bit. This gives the swarf somewhere to go and reduces the burning somewhat. You will have to blow it occasionally as it will fill up.

>Howdy Matt!

In Leonard Lee's book, "The Complete Guide to Sharpening," he says to sharpen hole saws just as you would a rip saw. (He covers it in the section on drill bits.)

If you don't have this book in your library, I join a host of others in recommending it highly. I've learned more about sharpening more different tools since buying this book than in 5 decades before.
