Router Plane cutters

Wayne Stump

>I rfecently acquired an unused Stanley #71 router plane and am in the process of trying to put an edge on the cutters. They have never been ground to the degree that they would accept a decent cutting edge and I am having trouble figuring out a method of holding the cutters so that I can grind them on either my Tormek or low-speed grinder. So far, I've been doing it all by hand on some wet-or-dry silicon carbide paper on a cast iron table saw extension wing. There is a little progress using this method, but I would like to do something that would produce results a little quicker, like in this century!

Fair point...

>In that case:

I swear the edge on these cutters was like a razor and despite me being not very keen on honing guides and jigs I am now a convert to the Ultimate Sharpening Jig and think it's a Very Good Thing Indeed.

And one day I may even get round to making one...*

Cheers, Alf

*But not while there's any chance I'll keep getting sent shiny sharp cutters in order to prove to me how good it is. Poor psychology there, BB... ;~)
